FLOURISH ATX: NAVY VILLAR + JESS LORENZANA
Two artists. Two distinct mediums. One shared space.
Join us September 20th at Flourish ATX for an intimate double solo exhibition featuring Navy Villar and Jess Lorenzana, two creatives bringing their individual bodies of work together for one afternoon of art, music, drinks, and community.
Unlike our larger pop-up events, this exhibition puts the focus on just two artists, giving you more time to experience their work, meet the creatives behind it, and take home an original piece of your own.
Both artists will be exhibiting and selling their work throughout the afternoon.
JESS LORENZANA
Born and raised in San Antonio, Jessica grew up discovering her love for replicating pictures on the cover of Disney VHS boxes with a pencil and paper. Torn between two passions, she ultimately ventured into the long journey of becoming a doctor. She was able to paint scarcely here and there during undergrad, med school, and residency.
She completed her Internal Medicine program at Kaiser in San Francisco, after which she found herself back in Texas to be closer to family. Trudging through life as a busy hospitalist and working multiple jobs after a family tragedy, painting continued to take a back seat.
In January of 2024, she committed to renting a studio space as a means of creating accountability and is now getting to paint more consistently for the first time since her high school years.
NAVY VILLAR
Growing up in Louisiana, some of Navy's earliest memories are of playing in the mud, and in many ways, she never stopped.
She's always loved creating with her hands, whether through clay or other tactile mediums. Ceramics became the place where everything clicked, combining hands-on making with endless opportunities to learn and grow.
Her background in graphic design influences her love of color and illustration, and she's often drawn to soft, rounded forms and bright, playful glazes in pinks, purples, and blues that bring a little joy to the everyday.
SOUNDS BY LEFT FIELD DIVISION
Austin's own Left Field Division will be providing the soundtrack for the afternoon.
Made up of Biuma, Jus J, and Scares, Left Field Division brings three DJs together to blend genres simultaneously, creating an experiential sound design that moves between house, breaks, lo-fi, and more.
Rather than traditional individual DJ sets, the three move between genres together, building an evolving sound throughout the afternoon that's meant to be experienced, felt, and, of course, danced to.
